A6287, known as the Voting Integrity and Verification Act of NY and sponsored by Assemblymember Brian Cunningham, protects the election process from voter count manipulation by providing that each voter is entitled to the use of an individual, voter verifiable paper ballot of the voter's vote and the opportunity to mark it.

A5486A, sponsored by Assemblymember Edward Gibbs, provides remedies for disrupted voting times and locations during elections by directing the BOE to extend voting to account for the disruption.

A6354, sponsored by Assemblywoman Latrice Walker, inhibits voter suppression by requiring persons that challenge the validity of voter applicants to provide an affidavit for the challenge.

Let NY Vote Coalition Newsletter

Greetings Everyone! This month's newsletter highlights more wins through the New York State Senate and New York City Council, busy activity in Albany, and a call to action before the 2026 Legislative Session in Albany concludes! General Coalition Updates
LNYV Presents @ April 18th Albany SOMOS Conference

LNYV presented on the six legislative priorities at the April 18th SOMOS Conference in Albany. The SOMOS Conference gathers hundreds of leaders, advocates, partners, and Latino community members from across the state and nation to engage in dynamic policy discussions, networking opportunities, and collaborative sessions focused on healthcare, education, economic development, and social equity. State Senators Kristen Gonzalez and Jose Serrano sponsored LNYV's panel workshop with the latter offering opening remarks of support and facilitating the Q&A portion. Over 30 attendees participated and LNYV was able to secure Sen. Serrano's support to sign-on to co-sponsoring the rest of our legislative priorities!

April 21st: NYS Senate Elections Committee Invites LNYV to Present

State Senator Kristen Gonzalez invited Let NY Vote to present on the Democracy During Detention Act (S440), Student Voter Empowerment Act (S2056A), and the Voting Integrity and Verification Act of NY (S7116) at the April 21st Senate Elections Committee meeting in Albany. We also spoke about the importance of passing two other former LNYV legislative priorities that would help improve the efficiency of the Board of Elections: 1) Making commissioners full time employees of boards outside the city of New York (S1087) and 2) Requiring a commissioner of a board of elections to meet certain qualifications before their appointment (S5452). All five bills passed out of the Senate Elections Committee! You can view a video of the meeting with LNYV's presentation here.

LNYV Visits Elected Albany Offices on April 28th Advocacy Day

They met with Senators such as Michael Gianaris, Toby Ann Stavisky, Zellnor Myrie, and Lea Webb, and Assemblymembers including Al Taylor, Carrie Woerner, Charles Lavine, and Phara Souffrant Forrest. Some of the electeds LNYV met with sit in critical committees, like Senate Higher Education and Assembly Judiciary, that can move some of our legislative priorities onto the chamber floor for a vote.
