Urgent: Keep touchscreen voting machines out of New York

Send an email to the NYS Board of Elections asking them to REJECT CERTIFICATION OF THE EXPRESSVOTE XL VOTING MACHINE. The NYS Board of Elections may vote as early as this Thursday January 7.

A sample letter is below. It’s most effective if you change and add your own thoughts and experiences to the letter.

For those who would like to make a public comment on the ExpressVote XL at the 12pm, January 7, 2021 New York State Board of Elections meeting, our coalition has created a Google sign-up sheet

We urge you to reject certification of the ES&S Expressvote XL

As a voter in New York State, I have a right to have my vote counted as cast. I have the right to privacy and a secret ballot.

Those rights are in immediate and present danger due to your consideration of certifying the ES&S ExpressVote XL

The ExpressVote is called XL because the screen is “Extra Large.” It is like a giant whiteboard showing my ballot to the whole room.

Our current system works. Using hand marked paper ballots with the option to use a non-tabulating ballot-marking device, combined with robust audits, provides the gold standard for protecting elections from error and hacking.

New York rejected touchscreens when it chose to retire the levers. We must continue to keep them out of New York. New Yorkers must have confidence in an election process based on ballots handmarked by the voter.
